Banded Demoiselle Exuviae (Calopteryx splendens)

The exuviae, which is backlit in this photograph is all that is left after the nymph emerges from the water climbs up the riverside vegetation and transforms into a demoiselle. The transformation normally happens at night to minimise the risk of predation.
